In the shadow of the Northern Crusades, 1222 AD, Livonia emerges as a land teetering on the brink of turmoil.
Dzintara, a fierce pagan warrior, returns to her homeland, fueled by a burning desire for revenge. Her lover has been mercilessly executed, and her rebel forces are decimated. With only a khanjar blade and her vast knowledge of healing arts, she navigates a landscape rife with treachery. Trust is a luxury she cannot afford in this realm where betrayal lurks at every turn.
As the relentless Northern Crusades cast an icy shadow over her people, Dzintara finds herself in the heart of Riga, a city fractured by the violent power struggles between the Archbishop and the influential guilds.
Confronting her enemies is more than a quest for vengeance; it's a fight to preserve the very soul of her people. But this battle is as personal as it is political. Haunted by a past filled with pain and loss, Dzintara must grapple with her demons even as she battles the external foes.

This was a wonderfully done historical fiction novel, it had everything that I was hoping for and enjoyed about the genre. The plot worked well overall in this world and time-period, it had characters that I cared about and wanted to know more about. Z. S. Winters has a strong style for this type of book and hope there is more in this world. - Goodreads Reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
